Obituary of Anthony Dellamura

FRANKFORT – Anthony G. “Tony” Dellamura, age 78, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the MVHS St. Luke’s Campus. At the time of his passing, he had the love and support of his devoted wife, Gay, at his side. Born on July 21, 1941, in Brooklyn, Anthony was the son of the late Armando and Teresa (Di Lascio) Dellamura. He grew up in a predominantly Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn and attended Bushwick High School. Soon thereafter, Tony went on a date with a young lady named Gaetana Mangano; the two fell for one another and began a sixty-year love story. Tony was Gay’s constant protector and she always made sure he was cared for in every way. The two were married on September 14, 1963 and would have celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage this year. As a young man, he was a wise guy, but he was also extremely intelligent. He took and passed the civil service exams for the Sanitation Department, Post Office, NYPD and NYFD; ultimately landing with the New York City Sanitation Department, from which he retired in 1976. Soon after the birth of their son, Armand, Tony moved his family to Long Island and took an interest in various business endeavors. He owned a motorcycle shop in East Islip where he designed and created custom motorcycles; even becoming the go-to guy for the Pagan Motorcycle Club! He also took an interest in clamming, and took up a job as a clammer, digging for clams on the beaches of Long Island. He always said he loved that work and it was the best job he ever had. In 1978, Tony and Gay relocated their family from the bustle of downstate to the quieter pace of Frankfort. Tony worked for a time at Remington Arms and other companies before taking a position with Steet Chevrolet in Herkimer where he worked as a car salesman for many years. Among his many hobbies, Tony loved motorcycles, rebuilding classic cars, hunting and fishing. Through the years, he was a member of the Frankfort Fire Department, a trustee for the Village of Frankfort and a former Commissioner for the Frankfort Police Department. Tony marched to the beat of his own drum. He kept his circle of family and friends small, and he did that on purpose. If you were in…you were in! When you were in his presence, even though you may have been a bit intimidated, you knew that everything he did and said was out of love. His family always came first and he was the most dependable and amazing husband, father and grandfather. His legacy will always live on through the ones he leaves behind. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gay; his daughter and son-in-law, Chrissy and Jose Lopez of Frankfort; his son, Armand “Delly” Dellamura of Virginia; his grandchildren, Tina Picente, Dean Picente and Armand Anthony Dellamura; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Rose Dellamura of Long Island; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and relatives, with special mention of his sister-in-law, Tina Manzo, his Godson, Louis Manzo and his nephew, Joey Manzo. In keeping with Tony’s wishes, and due to recent health restrictions, there will be no formal funeral service. His family will hold a Celebration of his Life in honor of his upcoming 79th birthday at their convenience. The Dellamura family have entrusted Tony’s care to their nephew, Martin Ciaccia, Funeral Director of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
