ILION – Ardine Fish Southwick, age 94, formerly of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at the Waterville Residential Care Center, Waterville, NY. Ardine was born on March 18, 1926, in South Glens Falls, NY, the daughter of Hazel G. Durrin Fish and Theodore Howland Fish. She graduated from South Glens Falls High School class of 1944. On August 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Calvin Southwick, II, by the Rev. Dr. Cecil E. Pearson, in the Friends Church, South Glens Falls. Theirs was a loving union of 61 years. Cal affectionately called her “The Queen” and he always treated her that way. Ardine was employed by the Glens Falls Insurance Company before and during the early part of her marriage. She also worked in the psychology department at St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY and for many years Ardine was Secretary/Treasurer of the Cal Southwick Insurance Agency, in Ilion, NY, retiring in 1988. Willing to share, she took time to “smell the roses along the way”. She was a good listener to young and old and offered her thoughts on basic common sense, especially to her family. Many relatives and friends benefitted from her influence on their lives. Her children fondly remember Mom ironing in the laundry as they arrived home from school so she could talk to them about their day as soon as they walked in the house.
