Obituary of Salvatore Sam Servello
FRANKFORT - Salvatore (Sam) Servello passed away the morning of July 23, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley and the owner and operator of the Herkimer Chief Supermarket for 35 years, on Main Street, Herkimer. For many years he was a member of the Saint Anthony’s Glee Club and the Crusaders. He was also part of the Elks Club and the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association. He enjoyed fly fishing, golfing and volunteering at the Herkimer Historical Society. He was a kind and gentle man with a deeply generous spirit.
Born in Herkimer, NY, in 1930, to Vincenzo (known as Jim) and Rosa Servello who had immigrated from Italy, he had five older siblings: Nick Servello, Tony Servello, Mary Mazzola, Angelina Foster, and Joe Servello, all predeceased.
He is survived by his four children, who he had with his first wife Dolores Chard Servello (deceased): Roseanne Weisser (Herkimer), Gigi (and John, husband) Grubner (Amelia Island, FL), Denise Knox (Clarks Summit, PA) and Sam Servello, (New York, NY).
He is also survived by his loving wife, of 21 years, Rose Servello (Frankfort); his stepchildren, Dennis (and Kim, wife) Marryott (Sarasota, FL) and Ed (and Renee, wife) Marryott (Frankfort); as well as 7 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandson. He had one predeceased grandchild and predeceased son-in-law, Robert (known as Bob) Weisser, (husband of Roseanne). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, George (and Rosalie, wife) Chard (Utica); sister-in-law, Marietta Pileggi (Herkimer); as well as many beloved nephews and nieces.
Viewing hours will be at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, in the Town of Frankfort, NY, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, 4 PM - 8 PM. His Funeral will be held at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral home, Thursday, July 28, 2022, starting at 10 AM. Interment will then take place at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY 13501, in his memory. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
