Obituary of James R. MacVilla

ST. JOHNSVILLE – James R. MacVilla, 67, of St. Johnsville, peacefully transitioned into spirit on July 28, 2018 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with the love and support of his daughters and his former wife Rev. Jeanne Carey at his side.

He was born on January 10, 1951 in Schenectady, NY a son of the late Albert Thomas MacVilla, Sr. and Cora Louise (Walker) MacVilla. He graduated high school and went on to attend the New England Culinary Institute. He served in the United States Navy from 1973 until 1978 upon which time he was honorably discharged. Jim was a passionate cook, he just loved it. His talents were appreciated at the St. Johnsville RNC and lastly with the Saratoga Racetrack Racino in Saratoga Springs. Family was of utmost importance to Jim. He also loved music, all kinds of music from oldies to the 70’s and he excitingly watched westerns as well. We would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt thank you to the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Every single person we came into contact with offered the utmost amount of compassion and phenomenal care. This allowed our family to walk this journey in a much more calm and comfortable way and we are sincerely appreciative.

The family that survives James MacVilla include his children, Cora Jean Murray and her husband, Robert, of Canajoharie, William Albert MacVilla and wife, Sue, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Samantha Marie Jump and her husband, Kevin, of St. Johnsville; a sister, Caroll Weakley and her husband, James, and a brother, Albert Thomas MacVilla, Jr., all of Mariaville, New York; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Holly Jo Wegner.
