Obituary of Dr. James S. Ward

ILION – Dr. James Singleton Ward, 77, passed away on Thursday morning, March 18, 2021, at Albany Medical Center. Born in Newburgh, New York, on February 9, 1944, he was the son of the late George Nevins Ward, Sr. and Gertrude (Singleton). He was an active member at the First Baptist Church, Little Falls, New York. He served in the United States Navy for over twenty-five years and was honored with many outstanding meritorious service awards as well as being certified in seven different fields of medicine and a pioneer of family practice. Upon his retirement, he moved with his wife to the Mohawk Valley where he practiced medicine for Bassett Healthcare and was the Medical Director at Valley Health Services, in Herkimer, for an additional twenty years. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ann (Hoaglander), whom he was married to for over 53 years; his daughters, Lynne M. Ward and Sarah E. Harvey and her husband, Jeremy; his beloved grandchildren, Taylor A. Ruby and Noah and Rhys Harvey. He is also survived by his identical twin brother, George N. Ward; and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held in the spring of 2021 and are planned as follows: Under the direction of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, New York. Calling hours at the funeral home are on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 4 until 8 PM. In coordination with Pastor Chris Wintermute, of the First Baptist Church, of Little Falls, a funeral service at the church will be on Saturday morning, April 24th, 2021, at 11:00 AM. Interment will then follow on Monday, April 26th, 2021, at 11:30 AM, at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Dr. Ward be considered to Care Net Pregnancy Center of CNY, PO Box 460, New Hartford, New York 13413 or to the First Baptist Church, 555 Albany Street, Little Falls, New York 13365 (where a special fund is to be established toward a lift or elevator for handicapped accessibility in honor of Dr. Ward).
